West Coast Port Congestion Surcharge

Friday, November 14th

Due to the ongoing labor disruptions and port congestion affecting the major U.S. West Coast ports without foreseeable relief in sight, some of our ocean carriers have now triggered a Port Congestion Surcharge (PCS) that was previously filed in anticipation of such disruptions.

The Port Congestion Surcharge will apply for all LCL & FCL cargo arriving at U.S. West Coast ports and transiting via Canadian ports for arrival in the U.S. effective November 17, 2014. The PCS will remain in effect until further notice is given by the carriers.

The quantum of the surcharge is as follows:

USD 20.00 per CBM or 500 KG
USD 800 per 20’ standard container
USD 1000 per 40’ standard container
USD 1125 per 40’ high-cube and reefer container
USD 1266 per 45’ high-cube container

We remain hopeful that the International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU) and Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) will resolve the pending labor issues and finalize a new Labor Contract pending since July 1, 2014.
