As an Advocate for the U.S. Import Community.

The management of Western Overseas has long been an advocate for the Customs Brokerage Community and American Importers. We continue to play a prominent role in the development of the U.S. Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) to provide for the security of the United States while Compliance programs simultaneously facilitating the growth of international trade.

Food and Beverages

Many of our oldest clients are involved in the importation of fresh fruit, processed foods, spices and alcoholic beverages. Western Overseas is known throughout the transportation industry as the expert in the field of food and beverage importations. We have cultivated excellent working relationships with the Food & Drug Administration and the Department of Agricultural in order to effectively represent our clients. The recent enactment of the Bio-Terrorism Act has changed the way everyone does business in this sector of the international trade community and, once again, Western Overseas has been at the forefront in devising procedures and systems needed to comply with the new regulations.

Textiles and Apparel

NAFTA, AGOA, CBERA and ATPA are just a few of the acronyms which have complicated the entry of textiles and apparel, not to mention the administration of textile quota and visa requirements. This category of imports continues to be impacted by political and economic issues. We realize that apparel importers require the most up-to-date information available regarding issues impacting their imports. Therefore, we have built into this website a number of Useful Tools and Links, including access to the latest Textile Status Report for Absolute Quotas. On behalf of our clients we also facilitate pre-entry Customs classification reviews and obtain Binding Rulings on items difficult to classify for duty purposes.

Vessel Clearance Operations

From the very first year of our existence as a company, Western Overseas has been an industry leader in the specialized field of the Customs clearance of arriving vessels. Our trained and experienced personnel board the vessels as they arrive in port (often in rough seas and foul weather), meet with the ships Captain and assemble the required documentation for presentation to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. We have long-standing relationships with many of the major carriers and these working relationships have benefited the company in its other operational areas by providing us with a unique insiders view of the maritime industry.

Basic Commodities

In addition to manufactured goods, a large percentage of our clients import shipments consist of raw materials such as:
  • Plywood
  • Petroleum Products
  • Steel
  • Chemicals
Consequently, our staff is very familiar with many of the unique requirements associated with these products such as steel section 201 duty rates, multiple read-outs from the unloading of bulk liquid petroleum vessels and the delivery requirements for over-weight cargos.
