The Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program is due to expire on
December 31, 2009 for most eligible countries.
If Congress does not enact an extension of the law, all goods previously covered
by GSP will require payment of duties. If and when the law is passed, it must
be made retroactive in order to obtain a refund of any duties paid in the
period after the law lapses.
In order to continue the GSP program without interruption, Congress must pass
the law prior to expiration. Interested importers should contact their
Congressman and the House Ways & Means Committee urging passage of GSP
continuation.
