Export Freight Forwarding
Western Overseas Corporation offers a comprehensive export freight forwarding service through our national network of offices. We recognize that export markets are becoming more important to U.S. companies as a new source of sales. Our objective is to assist our export clients in reducing paperwork, expediting the movement of their cargo and lowering shipping costs so that they can increase profitability and expand export sales.
Freight costs quotations
An important component of the service a freight forwarder provides to their clients is the prompt processing of export freight cost quotations. We understand that our clients require this information to reply to their potential customers and to complete pricing for C.I.F. sales. Western Overseas has devised this Export Quote Request form (please click for access) in order to facilitate the quotation process.
Ocean Freight
A major part of our job is to assist the exporter and their customer in selecting the right ocean carrier for their cargo. The right carrier is not always the cheapest carrier. A number of factors have to be taken into consideration: transit time, rate, dependability and the efficiency and location of pier facilities. Western Overseas export operations people are experienced in dealing with and understanding these issues.
Air Freight
Any recent experience in boarding an airplane as a passenger at a U.S. airport will also give you an idea of how the acceptance and forwarding of air cargo has changed. Added security requirements must be addressed to insure the prompt forwarding of export air cargo. Our airfreight personnel regularly attend seminars and classes to keep us up-to-date on who is and who is not considered as a known shipper and other security matters. The reduction of flights due to the global recession in air travel has made it important to select an airfreight forwarder who can obtain space on frequently over-booked flights. As one of the oldest independent airfreight forwarders in the U.S., we maintain excellent working relationships with the air carriers and our credibility and reputation in the industry is a major asset for our clients.
Hazardous Cargo
Another consequence of increased international tensions has been the added scrutiny of the shipment of hazardous materials. Western Overseas recognizes our responsibility, therefore, we send our export personnel to the required hazardous materials seminars on a regular basis to stay informed about packaging and documentation requirements for the movement of haz-mat shipments so that we can advise our clients in this area.
Export Licenses
When asked, many exporters are not sure whether their products require Department of Commerce or State Department licenses prior to exportation. The consequences of a mistake can result in being barred from any future export activity. Due to the previously mentioned increased international tensions, U.S. government license regulations are subject to frequent and significant changes. Western Overseas has access to the latest licensing information and can assist exporters in verifying the license requirements, if any, for their products.
Letters of Credit
Western Overseas provides a complete service for the production of documentation and the submission of documents to the bank for payment.
Cargo Insurance
For your easy reference, we have provided the following Cargo Insurance Guide. Please read the short document outlining the most appropriate ways of protecting your investment and your cargo. After reviewing the instructions, please contact your local Western Overseas Office for answers to specific questions regarding your cargo.
Project and Over-sized Cargo
Once again, this is an area where experience counts. Western Overseas personnel are experienced in the handing of projects including conventions, sporting events, theatrical productions as well as auto and air shows. In regard to over-sized cargo, our knowledge of which carriers (air and ocean) have the proper equipment and expertise to handle unusual cargo can be critical.
