Two Key Logistics Changes to Be Aware of This Summer
As we move through the second half of 2025, two significant updates may impact your shipments at major U.S. ports:
🚫 No More Fumigation Services in NY/NJ After July 24
U.S. Customs has announced that Vanguard Pest Control Company will permanently close its Quarantine Treatment Facility in Newark, NJ effective July 31, 2025.
- The last day for shipments to be accepted is July 24, and all cargo must be picked up no later than July 30.
- After closure, if CBP Agriculture Specialists detect a quarantine-significant pest, the only options will be reexport or destruction of the goods.
We encourage all importers and brokers to make necessary adjustments now to avoid delays or costly outcomes.
📈 LA/LB Port Fee Increase Effective August 1
The West Coast Marine Terminal Operators Agreement has announced a 2.84% increase in the Traffic Mitigation Fee (TMF) at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, effective August 1, 2025.
This increase is in line with rising longshore wage and assessment rates. The TMF helps offset the costs of extended gate hours—critical for port flow and scheduling flexibility.
